Is my home suitable?

If you have more than 2.5m sq of unshaded flat roof, or a pitched roof that faces between SE & SW, then solar is a serious option for hot water heating. You probably won't need planning permission, but you will need a hot water tank. Check out plumbing pages to get help answer the questions you'll need to get a quote.

Do they make financial sense?

Definately. Solar Hot Water is one of the best investments in terms of value for money. A well installed high quality system has a long operational life and works on cloudy days. It should generate around 70% of your hot water needs.

What sort of system should I choose?

There are two types available. Flat plate or evacuated tubes. If you have a SE or SW facing roof then evacuated tubes are better as they catch the sun's rays from all angles, but they are more expensive. If you have a south facing roof then flat plates are better value for money, won't leak or over heat your water and need less maintenance.

Will it help the environment if I install solar panels at my home?

Yes. Solar panels produce no pollution and by using the suns energy you will be offsetting pollution that would have been generated by your utility company.
